CURIOSITY ABOUT NATURAL FIBERS
Depending on the origin and processing of the raw material, a distinction can be made between natural fibers, artificial fibers and synthetic fibers.

NATURAL FIBERS are obtained from materials existing in nature and used by mechanical or manual processes that do not modify the structure.

They can be of animal origin or of vegetable origin. Among the former, wool, silk and leather are mentioned, while the latter include cotton, linen and hemp.

Organic or organic cotton:

Organic or organic cotton is cotton that is grown, produced, processed and certified according to organic agricultural standards.

Its production supports the health of the environment, ecosystem and people, encouraging the use of natural rather than artificial, chemical and toxic processes and substances, and combining tradition and scientific innovation to promote sustainability and quality of life.

Cotton (organic and otherwise) is a natural fiber because it is obtained by spinning the wool, real balls that cover the seeds of the dicotone plant, a herbaceous belonging to the Malvaceae family.

Cotton is the most widespread textile fiber in the world: it covers more than half of the fiber requirements worldwide but the difference between organic cotton and traditional cotton starts from the seed: the seeds used in the cultivation of organic cotton are not treated with chemicals and the use of genetically modified GMO seeds is prohibited.

Recycled Cotton:
Recycling is becoming more and more important and fundamental in our daily life: we all understand its importance in helping our community to preserve the planet.

Organic cotton is harvested completely by hand, preserving the purity of the fibers and ensuring that no fibers are damaged during the process. Harvesting by hand allows you to obtain longer fibers, as the fibers do not weaken or break during the harvest, and this means that garments made of organic cotton are softer and more durable.

Organic cotton is hypoallergenic and is therefore ideal for people with allergies: it will not cause skin irritation.

In our Laines du Nord cotton collection, the Organic Cotton yarn is made up of 100% organic cotton and the Baby Soft yarn, also from Laines du Nord and therefore Made in Italy, is made up of 50% organic cotton and 50% of soy.

Recycled cotton is obtained from cotton fabrics (used garments or weaving scraps) subjected to a recycling process consisting of many phases of processing: the subdivision of fabrics by color, carbonization to eliminate any impurities, washing, mincing in which the fabric is cut into small pieces which are subsequently sanded reducing everything into fiber.

From here follows the carding and spinning process.
Once transformed into yarn, it is dyed and packaged in balls ready to be knitted to give life to a new creation.

The entire transformation process respects the environment with the absence of chemicals in the collection and dyeing processes, and managing to significantly reduce production times and costs with great energy savings.

In our yarn collection we can refer to the yarn from Drops Loves You 9, made entirely from recycled cotton, while in Laines du Nord we find several yarns: Ecotone, Re Cotton Soft, and Eco Crochet, all completely Made in Italy.
