Talking (and writing) about socks is a timeless topic, given that in recent years the pleasure of making knitted socks has come back, as did our grandmothers and our mothers who used the classic "knitting game" .
Consequently, many books and patterns have been published to download online, to create socks with different techniques and many specific yarns for processing have also been marketed that create very beautiful and original designs and geometries.

To summarize schematically, the two main techniques for making socks are:
-CUFF DOWN ie work starting from the calf towards the tip
-TOE UP ie work starting from the tip towards the calf
TOE UP is gaining popularity thanks to some winning points:
- allows you to make the most of the available yarn as, once the foot has been worked, the remaining wool can be used for the leg without
worry about finishing it a few turns from the toe, as can happen in the Cuff Down knitting (especially for big feet or to have long-leg socks)
- starting from the toe, you can try on the sock after a few laps from the start, immediately checking the size (too wide, too tight), limiting the chances of having to spoil everything and start over
- it is completely seamless.
You can then choose the heel technique among the type: boomerang, gusset, cut heel, normal or German-style shortened needles, while the accessories to use to work the socks are: the game of 5 needles, circular needles using the magic loop technique, the micro irons, and as a latest novelty the 3 irons in the shape of a boomerang.
