Group of yarns

The yarns are divided into groups based on their composition: cashmere, alpaca, wool, silk etc. but also on the basis of the title or thickness, which is derived from the relationship between weight and length.

The worldwide classification of yarns based on thickness is called titration, but it is present only on industrially produced yarns, not on knitting yarns. For these yarns other classifications are used, of which we attach a simple table, which takes into account the Anglo-Saxon and the American ones. The Drops manufacturer also uses the letters of the alphabet, starting from A for the thinnest yarn up to F for the thickest one.

Within the same group, yarns of similar thickness coexist but which can obviously have different characteristics in terms of composition and workmanship.

In relation to the indications on the label, we recommend that you always make a 10 x 10 cm sample before starting a job to verify the correspondence between what is indicated and "your" hand.

To help you search and divide the yarns present in Lanaonline, we have divided them into groups as indicated in the table: therefore it will be very easy for you to find the yarn that best suits your needs by selecting the "YARN GROUP" filter and selecting the most suitable one. suitable for you inside.

Please note! The indicated needle size and the knitting tension are indicative for a stockinette stitch. The tension and size of the needles may vary depending on the proposed motif and the garment being made (for example, socks are knitted with a tighter tension and with smaller needles than a shawl with an openwork pattern)
